Autumn is fast approaching, and with it comes not only apple cider and orange leaves, but also the delicious smell of popcorn. Popcorn? Yes, that's right, September 28th is the beginning of the
Boy Scouts' annual popcorn sale, the primary fundraiser for our local Boy Scout troops.
Boy Scout Troop #88 is raising money with one major event in mind: a trip to Washington, D.C.
If the troop is able to earn enough through their popcorn sales, they will go to our nation's
capital for several days and visit Arlington National Cemetery, the Smithsonian, and some of the many memorials located there.
While enjoying the points of interest there, they will learn some of the history of our nation and of Washington in particular.
Before they can start packing their bags, however, the scouts first need to raise enough money
to fund their trip. That is where the popcorn sale comes in. For every container of popcorn that the scouts can sell, their portion of the cost of this trip will be lowered.
They hope to sell enough so that not only will the trip be inexpensive for each scout, but perhaps they might have enough left over so that some of this money can also go toward equipment
that the troop will need as the year progresses.
This year, the scouts are selling a delicious variety of popcorn choices, ranging from a large
mixed tin to microwave popcorn to regular popping corn. These items are still available for sale. All purchases will be delivered at the beginning of November,
when the scouts receive the products from their distributor. If you are interested in supporting them, there are several ways to contact the scouts of Troop #88. Some of the scouts
will be going door to door to make people aware of this important fundraiser. If they do not stop by, you can stop by T&G Custom Cabinetry on 27 Smith Street in Sidney to place your order.
You can call the troop at (607) 563-3400, and any money raised from phone orders will be distributed evenly among the scouts. You can also order on their website which is located at http://www.sidneyonline.com/bsatroop88
The scouts of Troop #88 want to thank everyone for their continued support and generosity.
These boys work very hard to help themselves and their community to be the best that they can be, but none of this could be done without the great support of their friends and family in our area.
