Troop #88 is a Boy Scout troop located in Sidney, NY, which is a rural community located in Delaware County in upstate NY.
But what makes them special? Only about 2% of all Boy Scouts achieve the rank of Eagle Scout. However, last year alone, Troop #88 had four boys achieve this rank, and this year, four more boys could achieve this rank by the spring.
You are probably wondering how many scouts are in this troop to have so many scouts in that top 2%? At this time, there are ten boys in the troop, although they will be recruiting more this coming fall.
Why help Troop #88?
When people think of the Boy Scouts, most often they think of camping, but were Scouting only about camping, it wouldn’t be one of the largest and most popular youth organizations in the nation. The truth is that the Boy Scouts of America teaches not only the many skills that we associate with the name, skills such as wilderness training, survival skills, and first aid, but also some very important leadership and citizenship training that will affect them the rest of their lives by making them better students, businessmen, and citizens.
This is why it is so important to support the Boy Scouts. Only through the scouts own fundraising efforts, and the generous support of their families, friends, and communities, can they learn these skills and have fun doing it.
Troop #88 alone is a history of success stories. They have an active schedule, including a food drive for the needy, an educational trip to Washington D.C., and helping the less fortunate by assisting a local Christmas charity. Not only do they work to become the best scouts that they can be, but these scouts also work hard to help the community that supports them so generously. In doing so, they not only build character and learn skills that will aid them throughout life, but they have a good time.
Where Does the Money That is Raised Go? [ Return to Top ]
Using the money that they raise, the Boy Scouts are able to attend various scouting events, including Boy Scout Camp, educational trips, and many other character-building activities. They are also able to go on educational activities, which teach them respect for wildlife and the environment, first aid, and leadership skills. A lot of this money keeps their equipment in good repair, helps the younger scouts with their training, as well as providing much-needed assistance to local charity organizations through their service.
The money raised by Troop #88 will, for the most part, go toward a trip to Washington D.C. next spring. This educational trip will give the scouts a chance to view our Capital, as well as learn about the workings of our government. Plus, this will be a great chance for the scouts to get out of their rural area and have some fun! They plan to visit Arlington National Cemetery, the Smithsonian, and learn some history about the District of Columbia. They hope that they can raise enough money so that their out-of-pocket cost remains low, and they all get a chance to go on this trip.
